Westside Family Festival

+ Fam Fest Volunteer

Serve our community in the biggest free party of the year. Volunteers will assist in creating a fun, safe and friendly atmosphere for our guests. Opportunities include helping with rides, maintaining a clean environment, refilling water bins and more.


First Impressions

+ Greeter

A smile, a word, and a touch can go a long way in creating a wow first impression for our guests. Come join our team and have the privilege of preparing people’s hearts for worship.

Days: Sundays on a weekly or biweekly basis
Times: 35 min (25 min before to 10 min after service starts) All service times available.

+ Usher / Offering Usher / Offering Attendant

Ushers/Offering Attendants have the privilege of welcoming and seating guests and members of Westside and helping them feel comfortable and at home.

Days: Sundays on a weekly or biweekly basis for 6 months
Times: approx. 40min (20 min before service until stream of guests slow ) All service times available.

+ Worship Center Set Up/Clean Up

Straighten and make sure each worship space is in tip top shape for our guests.

Day: Sundays prior to each service

Time: Making sure materials and trash are removed, and helping keep the seating areas clean and welcoming.


Family Ministry - Early Childhood

+ Small Group / Classroom Leader

Connects relationally with children in classroom and their families while leading children through activities that relate to the Bible story.

Days: Sundays on a weekly or biweekly basis.

Times: 1 hr 15 min. All service times available.

+ Substitute Small Group / Classroom Leader

Serves in place of the regularly scheduled leader connecting relationally with children in the classroom while leading them in activities that relate to the Bible story.

Days: Sundays on a weekly or biweekly basis.

+ Large Group Host

Serves as the emcee; welcomes the children; leads transition to the Bible story and worship through the introductory skit.

Enhances the Bible story and worship experience through audio/visual technologies.

Days: Sundays on a weekly or biweekly basis.

Provides regular assistance to a child with special needs as they participate in kids/ ministry programming.

Days: Sundays on a weekly basis.

Times: 1 hr 30 min per week. All service times available.

+ Prep / Pull Team

Serves the ministry by preparing and organizing resources for Sunday services. Childcare is available on Thursday mornings with registration.

Days: Monday or Thursdays on a weekly basis.

Times: Amount of time varies and is flexible.

+ Set-Up Team

Serves by setting up ministry environments for Sunday services. Childcare is available on Thursday mornings with registration.

Days: Thursdays on a weekly basis.

Times: 2 hrs. (9:15-11:15am)

+ Tear-Down Team

Serves by clearing and organizing ministry environments and/or resources after Sunday services.

Days: Sunday morning.

Times: 30 min + (Any amount of time you could give would be helpful.)

Family Ministry - Grade School

Family Ministry - Students

+ Stand-by Volunteer

This role is for the person who can’t commit every week, but is glad to help out with different logistical needs for big events or unique times when extra support is needed. Examples: driving a car for transportation, cooking food for a special occasion, hall monitors for big events, set up and tear down for events, selling snacks at a retreat, camp small group leader, etc.

Days: As needed

Times: Varies depending on need

+ Weekly Volunteer

This is for the person who wants to help out with logistic and technical needs on a weekly basis. Although there will be student interaction, there is no leadership expectations for this role. Examples: technical operator (soundboard, lightboard, Propresenter), weekly check-in, meal logistics (preparing, serving, and clean up), security team, etc. *Training is available for all technical operations.

Days: Weekly with a semester commitment, but the days can vary depending on your availability. Sunday-Thursday

Times: 1-3 hrs depending on event

+ Service Project Coordinator

The service project coordinator is the liaison between the student ministry and our ministry partners. This role works with small group leaders to get students involved in service projects. Ministry partners include: KCRM (Kansas City Rescue Mission), Delmar Gardens, Hands to Heart, Avenue of Life, and more to come depending on you!

Days: Whatever days work for you. This can be once a month or weekly for a semester at a time.

Times: 1 -3 hrs; time varies

+ Small Group Leader

The small group leader functions as the small group’s youth pastor in the weekly outreach program. They meet with the same group every week and build relationships with the students to lead them towards Christ. The small group leader guides discussions, welcomes new guests, and serves as a mentor for the students. Small group leaders are encouraged to attend as many student ministry events as possible, as these events cannot happen without them.

Days: Sundays or Wednesdays

Times: 1-3 hours week

Facilitate a small group on a weekly basis for 6-8 weeks. It’s as simple as inviting a few friends to join you. We’ll guide you step by step. Start Up Leaders have a heart for welcoming people and can coordinate the group time.

+ Host a Monthly Women’s Gathering

Want an opportunity to reach out to women in your sphere of influence and to build intentional relationships centered around a spiritual discussion once a month? Consider HOSTing a monthly women’s gathering (IF:Table) where you break bread together as you build intentional relationships centered around Jesus. Your IF:Table will be filled by your personal invitation to those women God has prompted you to invite through intentional prayer. Each IF:Table centers around 4 questions, 2 hours, 1/month.

Days: Flexible

Time: Approximately 2-4 hours/month


Community Impact

Rotates between our community ministry partners

Time: This 3 hour a month opportunity allows volunteers of all ages to serve on a one-day cross-cultural project.

+ First Thursdays – Network 1.27 Child Care Team

Our foster and adoptive parents get together for information, support and encouragement the first Thursday of each month September-May, while the parents meet we provide the children with an enriching opportunity to be with other kiddos in foster and adoptive families. WE are in need of teens and adults who would commit to caring for and being with these kids monthly, infants through teens. This is a fantastic opportunity to come alongside families who care for these special kids!

Days: 1st Thursday of each month

Times: 1 hour training 8/24 then 2.5 hours once a month 5:30- 8 p.m.


Café

+Brewer/Setup

This first shift of volunteers will be brewing the initial containers of coffee, setting up coffee carts, prepping tables in the commons and helping with various setup tasks at the coffee bar (i.e. make iced tea, fill hot water dispensers, wrap cookies/muffins, fill ice cooler, etc)

Days: Sundays, 7-8:15a

Times: 1 hr 15 min.

+Post-Service Cleanup

Help in cleanup/tear down after last service.

General Project Support

+ General Project Support

It takes a small army to complete the tasks associated with running a large church with multiple campuses! There are places to get plugged in for an hour or two during weekday mornings or for ‘on call’ special event support. We always need help with quarterly statement mailings or special projects like cleaning storage areas or filing previous years’ reports. If you have a heart to serve but a schedule too crazy for weekly commitments, let us know! We’ll let you know of ad hoc opportunities that you can pick and choose as your schedule sees fit.

Production

+ Production Team Member

This person is responsible for running all lights, sound and video for services and events. There are a lot of great places to get plugged in to this amazing ‘behind the scenes’ team. Many of these positions require no prior experience and you will be taught all you need to know. If you are looking to serve but don’t know where to get involved, we may have just the place for you.

Days: Sunday morning or evening

Times: All service times available.

+ Pre-Production Team Member

This person is responsible for capturing video and still images on Sunday and throughout the week at events, not just at the building. If you are are artsy, creative and techy...or any combination this might be just the role for you. If capturing video and stills aren’t your thing, we’re also looking for great video editors for all sorts of projects.

Days: Sunday morning or evening

Times: All service times available.


Online Campus

+ Slide Ruler

This is the hero who controls the interactive slides just below the video stream during the service and ensures that each slide gets pushed at the right time. Sometimes the Slide Ruler push the Live Prayer slide when he feels led to do so. Advanced Slide Rulers sometimes help the Chat Artist with welcoming people to the Online Campus and jump in the chat discussion.

+ Chat Artist

This person LOVES to talk and probably loved to pass notes in class!!! The Chat Artist’s superpower is the ability to see where a conversation is going and re-direct it to the topic at hand while creating a warm and welcoming vibe in the chat. More than just the gift of gab, the Chat Artist will say ‘hi’ to everyone no matter what their nickname is and post the answers to the sermon notes fill-ins. Experienced Chat Artists can take their abilities and publicly pray in the chat at times as well.

Days: Sunday morning/evening or during any of our streaming services during the week

+ Prayer Ninja

This elite member of the team watches the chat, secretly praying for each person and the people you can’t see lurking (trying to decide if they will engage or not). Prayer Ninjas will encourage people to enter into Live Prayer where they can pray with them in the private chat area and bring them to Jesus.

+ Twitter Sniper

The superpower of ‘stirring it up’ is strong with this one!!! This ‘Holy Troller’ uses his personal Twitter account to search for the words ‘church’ during the service times and invites people who need Jesus but can’t/won’t go to church to experience Church Online, no matter how wasted they are!!! Jedi Snipers have perfected the art of personalizing each tweet to each need and are #hashtagmasters.

We could use a few trustworthy posters to tell our story via instagram each week.

This person is a social media guru with design sense (not skill) and a secret love for administration. You're rare and we know you're out there.

Stories are better with pictures! Pictures are better when professionals take them!

Days: Westside Events. 2-3/year.

+ Squarespace Admin

If you know what squarespace is, and don't mind the behind-the-scenes work, we need you!

+ Pro Graphic Designers

Think series graphics, event graphics. Adobe Suite knowledge a prerequisite.

Times: 1-2 projects/year. Creative meeting, design, production.

You know a ton about marketing— what works, what's going to be trendy soon, what's a classic sure-thing. SEO best practices. Content Marketing. Sorting through data.

IT Support

+ IT Support Specialist

If you are a techie and you enjoy helping people then you might be interested in serving as a Westside Volunteer IT Support Tech I or II. Wrap your IT skills around Westside’s day-to-day IT hardware and software working directly with staff at multiple campuses to solve technical problems or escalate cases as they arise.

Days: Now scheduling for daytime and after hours support. Flexible scheduling

+ IT Network Administration

Work closely with the IT Team to implement best-practices in Westside’s IT Environment. If you get WIFI, VoIP, RDP, QoS, AWS, SQL, UTM, IPsec, LAN, WAN, VLAN, PLAN (kidding, I made that last one up), this might be your calling to serve by managing and monitoring the networks and security across multiple Westside Campuses. Days: Flexible & project based scheduling

+ IT Administrative Assitant

If you’re a tech geek that enjoys laying out projects, communicating deadlines and setting up appointments, we’re looking to to immediately place a volunteer admin to assist in organizing the IT work at Westside.

We’re often looking for programmers to discuss miscellaneous tech projects at Westside. .Net, C#, PHP, API, iOS, Android projects available.

Worship Arts

+ Instrumentalists/Vocalists

The worship team serves the gathered church by leading people through song in spirit and truth. If you’re gifted vocally or instrumentally and feel the desire to serve the church with your gifts, we’re looking for you.

Days: Sundays as scheduled, and rehearsal

Times: 3 hrs minimum per week. Morning services as scheduled.

+ Worship Team Pit Crew

You love coffee early in the morning, lifting heavy things and building and connecting things with your hands. You love to create an environment but can also carefully and quickly pack it away. You love the words, “a place for everything and everything in its place”. You love a fast paced task alongside others that supports the worship experience of 100’s of adults.

Days: Sundays as scheduled

Times: 6:30am-8:30am or 11:20am-12:00pm


Care

+ Funeral Meal Prep

Serves families by arriving early to gather the food and prepare to serve the family a meal.

+ Funeral meal serving

Making sure the food and supplies are full during their meal together. Replenishing drinks, food, condiments and whatever is needed for the family.

+ Funeral clean up

Helping to clean up after the meal. This would include washing dishes and gathering up leftover food to send with the families.
